Freefloat Access is a terminal emulator that connects your mobile computers, handheld terminals, forklift terminals/PCs to IBM mainframes (3270), AS/400 (5250), Unix (VT 100/220), Linux (ANSI) and SAP systems (ANSI). It is developed specifically to deliver an optimized solution when you want to integrate bar codes, 2D codes or rfid in an existing legacy host system, WMS system like Manhattan, ERP system like SAP etc.

  • Freefloat Access is the market leading auto-id enabled host access software, or terminal emulator. Available on all current Windows platforms, including Windows CE/Mobile and 2000/XP/XP Embedded.

Freefloat Access delivers access to IBM Mainframes, IBM AS/400 & iSeries and Unix/Windows connectivity in a small package.

    Latest version 1.4.23

    • Large floating, user customisable, pop-up keyboard for all VT/3270/5250 keys.
    • Emulates VT52, VT100 and VT220, TN3270, and TN5250 in the same small package.
    • No special programming needed to integrate wireless handheld computers.
    • Fully customizable keys.
    • TCP/IP real-time online operation.
    • Scripting capability, repetitious tasks can be completely automated.
    • Fast and accurate emulation.
    • Most configuration and behavior parameters can be changed on the fly at any time during a terminal session.

  • Freefloat started last year to develop a proxy platform for terminal emulator solutions using telnet protocol. We thought that using standardized Split-TCP technology was a good idea.

    It wasn't.

During initial testing we found that only 80-90% of the scenarios worked as predicted. We wanted a solution that could handle 100% of the cases when networks and connections fail.

    The solution is now here!

    What is a proxy server?

A proxy server works in between a client and a host. The purpose is to secure and maintain connections regardless of the network access status of the client. The proxy server is installed within the wired network with high bandwidth access to the host. From there it can serve clients on WLAN, WAN as well as wired networks with wireless links on the way.

    Are WLANs stable today?

Well, most WLANs are very stable as long as the client is not moving too fast. But when you introduce roaming clients, both within WLAN coverage area (moving between Access Points) and when moving in and out of coverage area (real roaming) you are almost guaranteed to have problems with unwanted disconnects. The cure for this is to add a proxy architecture.

    How does it work?

Freefloat Proxy Server works like a standard proxy server but Freefloat has added a few but very important innovations to the concept:

All traffic from the client to the proxy is tunnelled in UDP packets. UDP has a great advantage over TCP. The packets are sent connectionless, therefore they are not sensitive to disconnects. The proxy server makes sure that all packets are forwarded to the client/host correctly. If the connection goes down the proxy will keep trying until the network is up again and the operator will be able to keep working like if nothing happened. All problems are logged in detail for each client. This log file can be used to identify clients with problems, like bad antennas etc.All connections are kept alive. Regardless of the wireless link’s stability communication between the client and host continues uninterrupted. No need to re-login, unlock session or clean up half-ready transactions. Summary

By adding Freefloat Proxy Server not only do you raise the availability of your network by reducing disconnects, but you are also making the work more efficient. On top of that it will save time and money every day because helpdesk can focus on more important issues than unlocking sessions, workers don’t have to wait for re-connects and the customers will receive their orders faster. Freefloat Proxy Server can be added to any TCP/IP based solution but it offers the greatest benefits in terminal emulator environments. If used in combination with Freefloat’s terminal emulator Freefloat Access you can enjoy even more functionality, like auto-configuration etc.

No user or password required. Start it and the drive is immediately shared. Beware of that you should not share your drive on any unprotected network, like the Internet.

Install and run it on any Windows device with Windows 2000/XP or Windows CE/Pocket PC. Use it for file transfer and easy device management.

Freefloat FTP Server supports the following platforms:

    • Windows 2000/XP (Intel x86)
    • Windows CE/Mobile (ARMV4, ARMV4I & x86)

You can change the default port number if you want but it is not saved.

When the server is started, all you see is the small icon in the system tray. Double clickning that brings up the simple interface seen here to the left. There are three buttons:

    • Unload - exits the server and closes any sockets.
    • Stop - halts the server.
    • Start - enables the server, for example after changing the port number.
