SHIPS days, a well-known Japanese fashion retailer, has successfully implemented DENSO's BHT-1200 RFID handheld terminal, as well as the UR20 table scanner in its stores. The main reason for the implementation was the desire for improved operational efficiency.

Prior to the implementation and the switch from barcode labeling to RFID tags, inventory was very time-consuming and involved many employees. "There was one barcode per item, and we had to read them all individually," the store manager reported. "Now we can capture all the product data directly by waving the scanner over the items." With the BHT-1200 RFID, just one person can complete the entire inventory of about 10,000 items in three hours. This is an 89% improvement compared to the previous method of data collection. The introduction of the UR20 RFID table scanner at the POS has also reduced the time spent in checkout operations by 40% compared to the traditional use of barcodes, as it is now no longer necessary to scan each individual label. The UR20 reads all RFID tags at once as items are placed on the sales counter. This allows staff to perform checkout service quickly and efficiently, even when a customer purchases multiple items.
