Successful introduction of DENSO Auto-ID mobile data collection in Northern Ireland
Handheld terminals from DENSO in use at Musgrave Northern Ireland (NI), part of the Musgrave Group
The Musgrave Group is the wholesale partner for retailers in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Spain. In total, the Musgrave Group comprises over 3,300 stores across a range of retail sectors in three regions. The group is a family-owned company and was founded in Cork, Ireland in 1876. Today, Musgrave is a multinational company and one of Ireland's most successful firms and Ireland's largest private sector employer. Musgrave NI is part of the Musgrave Group and, through its own private label brands, partners with over 300 independent food retailers and countless foodservice outlets. Musgrave NI currently has three major partnership categories, which includes five brands:
- Retail - SuperValu and Centra
- Private label - Mace, DayToday
- Wholesale - MarketPlace
The DENSO BHT-1100 scanner has recently been in use at Musgrave NI's SuperValu and Centra brand stores and has more than proven its worth. "Currently, we have DENSO units in use in 96 stores. This number will increase in the future with the rollout to the other SuperValu and Centra stores," reports Graham Service, Retail IT Manager at Musgrave NI. The DENSO handheld terminals perform a comprehensive range of functions in the Centra and SuperValu stores and are extremely reliable: from ordering chilled and non-chilled food, discounting items, waste recording, price checks and inter-departmental transfers, to stocktaking, labelling and price changes - so far there have been no failures due to the scanner. "We are very pleased, to date the DENSO handheld terminal has more than met our expectations," said Graham Service. Code scanning must be instantaneous and exceedingly accurate. Weak or inaccurate scanning is not only annoying and frustrating, but more importantly, time consuming. Here, in addition to the accurate software of DENSO's mobile data capture scanners, the angled scan head helps, making scanning of high as well as low shelves easier than ever. "Our experience with DENSO's scanners has been excellent. Whether on the sales floor, in the storerooms or with frozen products, the scanning performance is the best we have ever experienced. In addition, since the introduction of DENSO's hand-held terminals, price check time has been cut in half," reports Graham Service. The DENSO BHT-1100 is extremely robust and copes well with the inevitable drop in daily operation. It even survives frequent forgetting of equipment in the freezer unscathed. The slim body of the handheld terminal allows employees with small hands to easily operate the scanner for mobile data collection. It also makes one-handed use possible. The DENSO BHT-1100 scanner also features a large and bright screen area that makes it easy to read information without tiring the eyes. The large buttons make it easy to operate with gloves, especially in refrigerated and frozen departments. The batteries of DENSO's devices are also extremely durable, which makes it possible to use them on the sales floor for a whole day without any problems.
