The modern check-in: advantages of digitalisation at the airport and at events

The digital transformation is taking hold of all processes. DENSO WAVE EUROPE explains the advantages that scanners and QR codes offer at events and airports.

Digitalisation is advancing internationally with great strides. Thus, both the travel and event industries are affected by the digital transformation. Especially in hectic places like airports and event venues, processes need to be modernised so that customer benefits and efficiency are increased at the same time.

DENSO WAVE EUROPE explains which concepts play a role in the digitalisation and modernisation of airports and events. Because the summer holidays have started in many places, holiday trips are coming up and the summer invites you to open air events. Among other things, the BHT-M series can be used at events. The mobile computers BHT-M60, BHT-M70 and BHT-M80 will soon be equipped with Android 13.

With QR Codes and Scanners: Finally Travel and Events Again

The Corona pandemic has given the QR code a new lease of life and since then it has been used more and more in many areas, including events and at airports. Masahiro Hara developed the QR Code in 1994 with DENSO's Applied Device Technology Department as an easy-to-read code. Click here for more information on DENSO's current QR Code models.

The QR Code contributes to the fact that numerous processes that were previously typically human activities can now be automated, such as check-in at the airport or registration, participant management or admission control at events. DENSO's mobile data capture devices are also essential for automation in the travel and event industry. For example, the QK-30 scanner facilitates the work processes of employees at airports and events. And the BHT-M series is also ideal for use at events.

Scanners and QR codes support airport employees

The challenges during the pandemic have shown many airport operators that cost reduction alone is not enough for sustainable business. Airports need more flexibility, efficiency - and digitalisation. And that's where DENSO's auto-ID solutions, mobile computers and scanners come in.

At Birmingham Airport, for example, the QK-30 is in use. The scanner is used to read boarding passes, which makes the processes at the security gates faster and safer. The stationary UR40 RFID reader from DENSO is also ideal for airport processes. The RFID scanner manages to capture 700 RFID tags per second. In addition, the scanning range of the UR40 can be adapted to the individual requirements at the airport. This is ensured by extension antennas that are quickly and easily connected to the RFID scanner.

In addition to the scanners, airport operators can use DENSO's QR Code®-based facial recognition at access points or for verification in security-sensitive processes - for example, where only employees are allowed access to secured areas.

Numerous advantages also for events and functions

DENSO's Auto-ID solutions, mobile computers and scanners also offer clear advantages at events, which may take place again in large numbers this summer. The Secure QR Code (SQRC®) is the secure version of the classic QR Code and is often already used for ticket authentication. While common mobile computers are able to read the public data of the SQRC®, only Data capture devices from DENSO can read the confidential encrypted data with the special Encryption Key. However, DENSO's cloud-based Q-Revo system can facilitate this decryption for other mobile Data capture devices, including smartphones.

And DENSO's BHT-M series - with Android 13 as its operating system from autumn 2023 - also facilitates processes during events. The mobile computers of the BHT-M series are equipped with the most powerful scan engine on the market to date. Both the BHT-M60 and BHT-M70 deliver top performance - even with processes running simultaneously. This means that staff can carry out registrations, record participant numbers and also manage admission controls without unnecessary interruptions.

Digitalisation essential in the event and travel industry

The digital transformation has been accelerated in the event industry and also in the travel industry by the pandemic. So much so that it has now fully arrived in both sectors. In the meantime, all processes - whether in internal planning or external implementation - are influenced by digital innovations.

With DENSO WAVE EUROPE and the mobile computers, scanners, QR code models and Auto-ID solutions, these digital innovations themselves become an event and a journey into a secure, uncomplicated and solution-oriented future.
